What you cherished about PMK back then

Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've talked to anyone around here and honestly I miss talking to everyone =\. This topic is based on what the title says. Just state what you miss about the old PMK. Doesn't have to be just one thing heh. Say as much as you want!
1. I miss the super skullz crew. The original four were me, sqaur, cthustla, and sasuska. We practiced MKDS basically every night after we got home from school and learned a lot from eachother's racing tactics. You could say me and sqaur were rivals, seemingly having close races every game! Ah what fun times. Two bad there were never really any guild wars.
2. Mormon and his cheerio-snorting self. I hated mormon when I first came here since he was sarcastic and at the time I hated that, but after awhile I started to think he was pretty funny and yeah. Me and him basically destroyed some french MKDS guild 2v2 when we were at TDS(touchds.com). Good times my lad! Good times! I still have mormon on my msn but sadly he never logs on =[[[[
3. Digitus and Kitflame! I disliked kitflame in the beginning but always found Dig to be quite a fun person to talk to! After awhile we were always in the chat talking and play MKDS, ACWW, and MPH. Their guild Digital Dimension or something like that (lol) were big rivals! Sqaur and Digitus had their beef with the whole situation you guys should know of. If you don't, look around the forums for it! It should be in threads of history or spam central!
4. Karting4Ever, Kane, and Supersonic! Really cool people who'd always hang out in the chat w/ me, dig, and kit. To say the least, we were always on wifi and had a lot of fun!
5. Fiyero and F1R3! This isn't considerably the "Old PMK" but they were here at the end of the golden age. Same viewpoints on the thoughts on #4.
6. TheWon & Everyone else! Well most of you thought I was a noob. I could tell from the start when I joined. I was a pretty big fool back then and was a child. I lied about being older which really kinda make me feel like an asshole but hey can't do anything about it right now. >_>
7. All of the wifi game teams! Remember how much fun everyone had racing, shootin, and living it up with eachother?! If only we could bring back the past! Everyone has moved on.... =[
Now post your own!

At the risk of sounding like a total jerk, I will say that I cherished the fact that people would make posts, instead of exclusively using the shoutbox for most conversations.
And again at the risk of sounding like a total jerk, I must say I always did miss the original look of the site. It was clean, classy and straight to the point. Ever since the redesign, things just didn't mesh together. Some of the text became rather difficult to read (for example, look at the "Post reply" header as you type out a reply) and, to be quite frank, the look of the site went from this classy clean appearance to something rather amateurish.
I also enjoyed all the Wi-Fi gaming. Things have changed now and I will probably never find the time to actively play in a competitive online game again, but those chat room days were a blast.

I missed almost everything back then.
Like Mister Flannery here(Where did the name come from anyway?), I also miss people posting in topics.
Maybe the people who recently joined didn't like the fact that there was very little activity going on.
I don't know what else to say. Meh.
Anyone have any ideas on how to attract people to the site?

Well think of the time we were in as a golden age, but nowadays it's like the dark days. O ya. But it most likely won't be the same ever considering all the people who'd make it the same are out and about. Oh well, the site had it's time. Maybe one day it'll have another golden age. Until then we will see. Most unlikely but whatevz lol.
And to FM: You came later on when the golden age was ending so that's why I never mentioned you. The golden age was like 05-very early 09. That's when things started dying.

I got the name from part of a title of a song that I like: The Incomparable Mr. Flannery
http://www.youtube.com/v/xh7pqoO9NLU
Remember I went by Nefe throughout the Golden Age of PMK, around the time I left I decided I needed to change my name to something more relevant to my personal tastes.
In regards to having another golden age, yeah it could happen I guess. Does TheWon still have that lock on new registrations? If we are serious getting this site up to the level it was back in 05-09, then I think that is one of the first things that needs to go.

Trust me dude, i feel the same way.
I've been trying since forever to get TheWon to take the shoutbox down, but i think at this point people would stop using the site all together if that happened.
What we need to do is all make an active effort to use the forum instead of the shoutbox primarily.
Maybe blast a quote or so in the Shoutbox, but use a forum post to back it up for discussions!

I don't really see the problem with the shoutbox. Yeah it's getting more attention than actual posts but honestly neither one gets much attention. Either way its still more activity on PMK and I would be willing to bet that if we disabled it for a week or two, posting activity would stay the same. Its kinda like the texting vs calling thing, people think texting is a waste but you're still getting the message across aren't you? so how can it be unwanted when it's just a different way to do the same thing?

I say we make the shout box visible for guest. Cause when they come by all they see is boring post and not the lively shoutbox..maybe they will register and post.

Awww Nobody Liked me in the Golden Age lol. I remember being verbally abused by Mormon on a regular basis haha. I also remember having some nice talks with Digitus and Kitflame. And i rmember showing fat pics of me and saying how I wanted to lose weight.
I think I was quite the underdog back then, and I still am (though i dont show up very ofton these days). The Mario Kart team I was on had the notorious Gutbean on it and we had small fights (I think he did with everyone haha).
Overall some fun times, Nobody has many memories with me though >.<

I miss the formation of teams for each league, communicating about what each one's plans were, and never actually starting a team league. XD And chat parties. Chat parties were always fun.
I say keep the shoutbox. There's been times where I've logged on here, and there hasn't been a shoutbox post for two or three days. Our problem is just attracting people. With today's systems, everyone's attracted to either the Xbox 360 or the PS3. Nowadays, it's mainly a younger (probably around 8-11) crowd primarily using their DS or Wii. Hell, I've met countless 10-year olds on MW2 alone. Kids are just more into other systems these days. They aren't like how we were when we first joined. But there really isn't much we can do about that, Other than changing the url to projectonlinegaming.net

Sorry but I need to rant about something: Honestly, I'd rather have the 8-10 mature regulars we have now over the racist, homophobic ten year olds on the Xbox Live servers. Them and their little high-pitched foul mouths don't understand (or really care) how this industry works, and seem to only care about the same old derivative military shooter (yes they are good games, but the horizons need to be broadened). I hate playing online competitive multiplayer because they infest the servers with their annoying prima donna attitudes. Not having them around is what made this forum so much fun to visit in the first place, and one new member every month or two is good enough in my books if they are mature and understand that a good game is a good game no matter if it's on the Wii, Xbox, Playstation, DS, PSP, PC, or TurboGrafx.
I do think having the URL changed to something other than projectmkart would be a great idea, though I'm not entirely sure if there are any technicalities that would prevent that.

so what's the current status of PMK? I kinda sorta look at my RSS feed in my Mail app but not really. Are there any games we're looking into together or anything like that?

I'm not saying that I'd want more high-pitched, stuck-up ten-year olds on the site, I'm just saying that the interest in gaming has changed since we were that age. If we can take the wiis and ds' off of the home page of the forum, it might be a good start.

Yeah I know you weren't recommending that, I just needed to get that off of my chest.
Back during the early days (even before the redesign) I annoyed everybody with my DON'T BE A FANBOI GUYZ!!! attitude, so naturally I think the absence of company and franchise preference is an absolute must.
Which would make having a gaming-centric art direction rather tricky.

Hmm, this is quite a great topic Grimguy, I can't help but post one more time.
One of the things I've missed so sorely is the great community we had here. I know we had our fights, and realistically I miss some of those fantastic (and relevant) arguments/discussions, but we always all sort of stuck together. Also, it was great to have a place to come to after school and play games with others that I "knew", and to get pointers/tips on things to improve. A division of that community part was also coming to a place where people shared your interests to an extent, and listened to an extent. As much as my actions may have seemed to the contrary, I will have to say that Digitus was one of those people that would be there for anyone to talk to. Don't get me wrong, I've probably not gotten along with Digitus more than any one else on this site, but he is still quite the respectable person.
I also remember quite a few of the other "non PMK originals" like myself who are now PMK originals, and they have all grown in their different directions, it's been interesting to see. Although I keep in contact with the others of the "big five", I still miss not having them around here (Dangerboy, Dark Phoenix, Nefe, and Matt). This site is probably responsible at least in part to the health of our group friendship.
On a more specific level, I miss the competitions (especially the Custom Robo one, hahah), and I miss wanting to compete. I've always been more of a one-player gamer, but this site did bring out the multiplayer gamer in me, if only for a little while.
I also miss not being considered a jerk because people misread the intentions of my post, though I have to say that happened the most to me of any of the other people here, hahah.
Well think of me now what you will, but at least remember me as I was before, combolations everypeoples.
EDIT: Oh, and I also miss Luigi_Mario 64
I also miss BBQWOOTFTW!!!s
